Kangaroos and wallabies hopping casually around a lush clearing; raucous colourful birds flying through the trees - that's what awaits you in the Blue Mountains National Park, where we'll take you into the Bush to experience animals in their natural setting. This isn't a tourist park - it's the real thing!
Seeing wildlife behind fences in a Zoo is fine (and we encourage you to visit our beautiful Taronga Zoo while you're in Sydney). But NOTHING beats getting up close and personal to the wildlife in its natural setting. Here in the bush you have the chance to see the animals in their natural state - feeding, grooming, mating and even fighting.
In the afternoon, on our way down the Mountains, we'll call in to Euroka Clearing to see the birds and animals on their home turf.
Located near the small town of Glenbrook, Euroka Clearing in the Blue Mountains National Park is the perfect spot to base ourselves to see Australian wildlife. Meaning "sun and warmth" in the local aboriginal language, Euroka has been a habitation spot for people and animals alike for millenia.
Euroka falls within the traditional aboriginal lands of the Darug community, and was a popular camping area. Stone tools dating back approximately 15,000 years have been found in the area, and important artwork sites like Red Hands Cave are nearby.
Euroka is the remains of an ancient volcanic crater so its soils provide a fertile oasis in an area of comparitively nutrient-poor surrounds. As such, it forms great grazing grounds for all the local wildlife. Being a natural setting we can't guarantee what you'll see, and every day is different. But you're sure not to be disappointed!
Grey Kangaroos are plentiful, lazily grazing and hopping idly around. They're very relaxed with people, so getting close to them is no problem. Wombat holes show evidence of these lovable marsupials, though as nocturnal feeders they're less likely to be in view.
Birds are a definite feature of the Australian Bush, many with bright colouring, or loud distinctive calls to let you know they're there. At Euroka you're likely to see loud, screeching White Cockatoos, laughing Kookaburras, Eastern Rosellas, Fairy Wrens & Bowerbirds. If you're lucky, you may hear the varied calls of a Lyrebird - known as the Bush Mimic for its ability to copy the calls of all the other animals of the bush.

Reptiles are plentiful as well. You may see Goannas or Blue Tongued Lizards. Snakes live throughout the Australian Bush, although (some will say thankfully!) harder to see as they'll move quickly out of danger's way.
